So DH & I looked at a lot of reviews & info online. DH agreed, at this stage for DC, the Reader would get a lot of use. So we had planned to shop around on Friday after my Dr. appt.
I recalled that the last time I shopped at Kohls there was a TON of Leapfrog stuff on sale (yellow/red tagged). On a whim last night I stopped by. I found a girl one immediately, originally $49.99 marked down 60% to $19.99. It was the newest generation one, too(32G holding 10 books vs. the oldie that only holds 5 books). So the hunt for a boy one began. I know folks hunting for a bargain like to hide things they intend to come back for, so I went digging. Behind EVERYTHING in the Toy section. Even got on my knees and looked under the rolling carts. LOL.
Then I saw it. A strange and eclectic pryamid of toys on a seemingly unorganized and mostly empty shelf. I was just about to give up looking when I spied this odd pile and decided to investigate. First a Zhu-zhu pet, then a Melissa & Doug Puzzle, a Cars Geotracks set, then a Disney Princess board game and at the very bottom, laying upside-down there it was. A boys TAG Reader! The heavens sang.
I grabbed it up and wandered to the Customer Service counter. I quickly realized that the tape had been broken and wanted to be sure it wasn't a return that was missing parts. Opened it up, everything was accounted for. CD had appeared to not been tampered with and the batteries were still in their cellophane wrapper.
I called DH & we agreed - buy it! Happy Birthday to my little boy! Hoorah! I'm so glad that stress is finally over. The uncertainty was really starting to whig me out.
Thanks to all of you for your reviews they really helped to shed the light on what this contraption really was for DH.
Re: AW & Thank you, re: TAG Reader
Great buy! Did they have Tag books too? I'm getting tired of listening to the same ones over and over again...
Yay for a good find! Kudos to your for not giving up and thanks for teaching me a valuable shopping tip. I didn't know about the hide and come back later ploy.
I know that I've been getting tons of emails since Christmas about sales on the Leap Frog site so you may want to check for books.
It came with one book, and I'm going to pre-load that before I wrap it.
We're hoping that some other family will buy some books and after his birthday will be scouring the clearance racks for others to supplement his library.
