All the little Kaitlyn's I know are adorable and sweet. I don't think it's trashy at all. I also don't like refering to any name as trashy. It's tacky imo.

I really like the name Kaitlyn and DO NOT think its trashy at all. Besides, your name is not what will drive you to being a successful person; so that was a silly comment someone wrote about what college any Kaitlyn would be going to. Now that is Ignorant...
Not trashy, but trendy...the K, the Y the LYN ending...all hot trends. There's a perfectly awesome spelling that's less trendy, and I actually perfer it...
My guess is that whoever said trashy (and believe me there are names that scream trashy through the computer screen, but they might be different for everyong), probably knew a Kaitlyn of some kind of age that was a trashy person. Or at least that's my best guess.
It is a very classic and common name so a lot of people like to spell it a little different so its somewhat unique to that person. I am Kaitlin. Neither is trashy!

No, this was actually my favorite name, my daughter would have been a Kaitlyn (this same spelling too) but I don't like Kate or Katie and didn't want that battle later on. So she got Evelyn instead.

I need to make a siggy badge for "Caitlins Against Caitlin/Kaitlyn/Catlinn/Kaytlynne."
As a graduate of one Ivy League university and a graduate student at another, I can attest that there are plenty of Caitlins here, but not many of them are legacies ? i.e., the people who chose that name were not Ivy League grads. Also, I think there is definitely a class/education difference between people who chose Caitlin in 1980 and people who chose Kaitlyn in 2000.
It's not that I hate my name, or that it is "trashy," but I don't love it. It is never, ever spelled correctly and is mispronounced surprisingly often for such a common name (acknowledging that the KATE-lin pronunciation is already pretty far from the Irish pronunciation). It is not a name that commands much respect on its own ? I feel that I have to work harder to be taken seriously in my professional field. Also, I think that the multiple spellings drag down whatever appeal it might have had initially ? imagine if, 20 years from now, the lovely, dignified Olivia were to be overtaken by Alyvyah.
I also prefer a different spelling but I don't think it's trashy at all. I love that name!

lol I think you need to work on your reading comp skills. The poster was talking about the parents.
I think that spelling is a bit dated and maybe low class (stereotypically). I do love the C spelling.
Re: Is Kaitlyn "trashy?"
"White trash" was the phrase I think... followed by "low class."
Just wanted to see if that was a common perception.
Not trashy. But if I were asked, "Did Kaitlyn's parents go to an ivy league college or a community college?" I wouldn't answer ivy league.
Prefer this spelling too!
I agree with this, "K" names can seem a little more "harsh" IMO.

I agree with this...although I'm still not a fan of the name in general.
The only Kaitlyn I know is trashy but it's the person that makes it trashy, not the name that makes the person trashy

Ummm...my daughter's name is Kaitlyn. My husband and I both have Masters.
I chose to spell it this way because I feel Caitlin had too many i's and I prefer a K to a C.
Your daughter is GORGEOUS!!!
