DSNG & Chicco Keyfit

I just got the DSNG and Chicco carseats at my shower over the weekend...and I am starting to second guess my choice. When I originally registered, I didn't know that the Chicco seats don't actually snap in, and when I found out I just figured that it would work out okay because they still fit just with an extra step. But, now I'm not so sure (I haven't actually tried it yet, they are still in their boxes). Does anyone have the DSNG with the Chicco seats? Does the combo work okay for you? Thanks!!

Re: DSNG & Chicco Keyfit

  • What is the "extra step" you are talking about to make them fit in the DSNG? I'm curious because we are thinking about registering for those exact carseats and the DSNG. Which ones are you thinking you would rather have (aka: your second choice)?
  • They don't snap in, so you have to buckle a strap over each carseat. It doesn't actually seem that difficult, I would just rather that it snapped in. If you google, there's a video that will come up showing the setup.

I'm not really sure what my second choice would be! I was pretty set on the Chicco seats...maybe the Graco Snugride.

  • I have the KeyFits and the DSNG. Yes the seats don't "snap" onto the bar, but they are very secure. We don't even use the seatbelts to hold them down. IMO they aren't necessary unless you plan on tipping your stroller to the side or forward. I've taken our babies out almost every day since getting home from the hospital - to Target, the mall, BBB, Panera - we've never had an issue.

this...there are metal rods that are used with other carseats that you have to take off to use with the chiccos.  i watched a you tube video to learn how they fit in.  i love my car seats

  • We have both, and its a very secure fit. That youtube video is very helpful.

  • We have both and are having no problems whatsoever.  I *love* the keyfits!  We had to watch the youtube video a few times to get it figured out correctly, but it works fine once you get the hang of it.  You're supposed to use the straps with any configuration, so it's not that big of a deal in my opinion.  I don't think the seats will go anywhere unless you flip the thing.
  • We used a Chicco with a single SNG for my older son, and really loved both. That strap just takes a second to snap in place. But, I did notice that other people's carseats fit better on grocery carts than my Chicco did -- ours rested okay in the seat area, but didn't snap on or anything.

We still got a second Chicco carseat for these babies -- it was a great overall carseat.

They don't fit on shopping carts because they are built not to.  It is unsafe to put car seats up there and Chicco was trying to prevent this. The American Academy of Pediatrics published an article recommending against it and citing all of the dangers if you felt like looking it up.

We have the Keyfits and the DSNG and love them both. Not a big deal that they don't snap in and it's a breeze to work with the strap.

  • Thank you for your responses! It sounds like everyone finds the Keyfits to be secure in the DSNG, which makes me feel better. I am going to keep them!

  • I have the Keyfit 30s, and I had no problem using the DSNG.  I just put the strap over the seats, no problem, it seemed very quick and easy to me.  My husband found a video on youtube that explained the whole thing.

  • I've been trying out how to make this work too. ?I haven't been brave enough to use the stroller yet, though. ?I hope this isn't a totally stupid question, but does the strap go over the car seat when the child is already in the seat or do you put the strap on before putting the child in the seat so that the child would be sitting on top of the strap?
