TTC After a Loss

does a consistent temp rise always mean ovulation??

so i am planning on buying TCOYF but i was thinking about this on my way home from work today. i know that just because you get a positive on an OPK that it doesn't mean that you will ovulate and that you need to see a consistent temp rise in order to know that ovulation took place but i guess my question is that if you get that consistent obvious temp increase can you be really positive that you actually ovulated? i have been having this fear that just because i get a positive on my OPK and my temp rises that i'm not actually releasing an egg. i know this is probably really dumb of me to ask and i should just go back to freshman biology class but i thought maybe you ladies could give me some insight.

this whole TTC thing is just so frustrating. why is it so hard if i AM ovulating and releasing an egg to get PG?! i know you ladies understand.

  • You'll understand more when you read the book, but I think the only way you can positively know you ovulated is if you have a dip in temp and then three sustained temperatures (so three days) above your cover line, which I believe is the average temp that you have temped in the upcoming days, which for me seems to endlessly be 97.5.

  • A temp rise is caused by increasing levels of Progesterone, which is made by the corpus luteum(the old house for the egg)  In order for the CL to form an egg is released so techinically you would have ovulated.  I think its pretty safe to say that if you have a clear temp shift then you ovulated that month.  There are soooo many steps after the egg is released in the TTC process that it actually amazes me there are so many people in this world.  Its all about egg/sperm quality, the right enviroment, traveling to the uterus, DNA forming and replicated....blah blah blah.  Keep your head up....I know its really hard

  • I would vote yes, a temp rise (a good one) should indicate that O has actually occured.  The annovulatory cycle I had a few months ago had no temp shift at all.  You can check out my chart a few cycles back.  I'd say you're good and are actually O'ing.  You just haven't been lucky enough to have been picked by "the claw" yet.  If you remember seing a post about that before.
  • lol "the claw"? please fill me in!
