Re: advice please (crib sleeping)
1) Your 7 month old won't suffocate...especially if you don't have blankets, stuffed animals etc. in the crib.
2) You can either rip the band-aid off and get it over with (CIO, Ferber), or peel it off slowly and gently but it will take longer and be slightly painful (go in and soothe when he wakes up). Whatever you do, be consistent and DO NOT give up and put him back in the swing just because you're tired.
Bar tab = $156,000, Bus to Foxwoods = $0, Puking in the Stanley Cup = Priceless
THIS...EXACTLY!
We had the habit of pulling JJ into bed with us if he woke up after 3:30am. Now, I don't care how many rock, fall asleep, put down in crib, wake up, repeat it takes, the boy sleeps in his crib. He gets better and better each day.
You have to make the decision that you WILL put him in his crib to sleep. Once you make up your mind, you'll find that it gets easier and easier. He will get used to it. Make sure you don't have any pillows, blankets, or padded bumpers to ease your mind. Do you have a white noise machine? Did your swing make any noise? He might be used to the constant rocking, but with time, he will get used to his new sleeping arrangements.
How about a pacifier? Is he hungry when he wakes?
Have you tried any sleep training? Have you talked to your pediatrician? Sorry for all the questions, but there are many factors to consider with the transition; most importantly, beginning with you!
I think there is a comfort in being shoved in the corner of the crib. My DD used to do that all the time, and still occasionally does it. We got breathable bumpers for her crib. They have worked great.
