DIY all-in-one's?

Does anyone sew their own AIO's? If so, what do you recommend as far as sizing, materials, patterns...? Would you cut patterns from prefolds, or start from scratch with some cotton/terry fabrics? How difficult would it be for a sewing newbie to make a small stash of DIY AIO's? I've got a sewing machine, I just need to get more practiced with it. Any advice would help! TIA!

  • I've only made fitteds with the darling diapers unlimited pattern, but there really great directions with the pattern for all types of diapers. I've yet to make any AIO's because I've been waiting for my Joanns coupon to come in before I go out to buy any PUL (for outers),  but if you are unsure at all on how you're going to put your diaper together- this pattern has all of the instructions you will need.

As far as fabrics go, you are right with cotton/terry fabrics as far as making absorbent soaker layers for your diapers. AIO's will need a hidden soaker layer, and cotton terry is a popular choice for the hidden soaker, as are old prefolds. Cotton/bamboo/hemp/ fleece are popular choices for inners because they are so soft, and they wick moisture away from baby's skin. Suedecloth (alova) is another popular inner for this reason too I believe.
