Re: PIO vs. endometrin?

  • Funny you ask that....we are just deciding between the two. PIO shots are obviously going to be more painful than an endometrin suppository. Endometrin is also much more expensive if you don't have IF coverage (approx $400). Also, my RE office just told me today that many girls have spotted quite a bit on endometrin. They have not had a higher rate of m/c, but the girls have been panicked with the spotting.

We did endometrin for IVF #1, but we will most likely do PIO for #2.

  • Well, i started off on PIO but it aggrivated my sciatic nerve to the point where i could not walk.......so the dr switched me to endometrin. It is true that it is NOT covered for IVF in many cases, but because it is not always used for this, and if you can get it at your local pharmacy it can be. We were all OOP and this was the one thing that WAS covered (4 weeks worth for 60 bucks) I was scared at first bec i thought it wasnt as "good" as the PIO but im almost done with my first tri and still on it.

  • I didn't have a choice but I wanted to say that my Ins doesn't cover IF either but somehow my RE got my IUI and Endometrin covered by coding my treatments correctly. I pay $45 for a 2 week supply of Endometrin. GL to you.

  • My doctor prescribed PIO but after my husband and I had a bad experience with the HCG shot I absolutely begged the doctor to let me do endometrin instead.   She let me make the switch but told me that they are hesitant to use it because they can't get a blood reading as to what your progesterone is during your cycle.   I have used it before (with IUI's) and did not have any spotting issues- and I almost always spot before AF.   Of course now that I am 4dp3dt I am freaking out that I should have just dealt with the shots.    Good luck!
