My hubby turns the big 3-0 on April 4th. I will be 7.5 months preggo and don't mind being the DD (des driver in this since of course, lol) but he is not a big drinker at all. Things he loves: adventure/gaming type things, sushi, playing pool, and sports. Also, we can't afford to spend a lot of money. And I really don't want to have a house party as he doesn't really like having big groups over.
I really want it to be special for him and want to get all his friends together, but sometimes I think that's more important to me than it is to him.
Any ideas you can throw out would be much appreciated!
Re: XP: NBR; What to do for my husband's 30th?
DH invited all my friends to a Japanese Steak House for my 30th. They put two of the grills together so 16 of us could sit together. It was a lot of fun...flying shrimp, onion volcano, the empty egg trick. My parents also gave me a family 30th birthday party by renting a pontoon boat at Lake Grapevine (but my birthday is in July).
What about taking a day trip to Choctaw Casino? I'm pretty sure that casino is smoke free. We went to WinStar in OK for DH's 30th with some friends and had a blast.
Have you thought about getting a small group together of the closest friends and having a get together at your place? You could make it a birthday pot luck (to offset some of the cost) and maybe play group video games like scene it or family game night (okay, that second one is kinda lame, but my pregnancy brain is drawing a blank on other party type games).
If he loves sushi and you live near a marketstreet or a Central Market you could have a nice sushi dinner for two for markedly cheaper than going out. (Well, you might have to eat vegetarian sushi or something else depending on how carefully you're watching what you're eating.)
My best advice would be to do what you know HE would like best. My husband much more prefers to spend special occasions with just me as opposed to a group. Others can't get enough of large parties. (Is there anything y'all may not be able to do after the baby is born that you want to have one last go at?) Odds are you know him best. And if all else fails, go to the dollar store and buy squirt guns and water balloons and have a water fight (on an at least 64 degree day, of course!)
Hope he has a wonderful 30th!
