When I had my daughter I made sure to get some extras form the hospital before being discharged. I would just put a one away every time I used one. This gives you a day or two worth before you need to use your own. I found that Always Maxi Overnights with wings worked great!! I had tons of stitches (4th degree tear) and never had any problems with them catching (or at least not that I noticed). Hope this helps!
I bought a pack of Target (Up & Up Brand) Super Overnight Maxis. They look promising and they dont have mesh over them, it is more of a cottony overlay.
In past experience I have never noticed mash on Kotex pads either.
I was told whatever brand is usually your favorite, in their highest absorbency - with wings if available. I love Always because they aren't as bulky, so I'll pick them up. I can always send DH to the store if I want to try something else.
DH loves buying me pads. Oh, and Colace, Prep H, Benefiber, etc. Totally kidding.

Never heard of the no mesh thingy, and I had lots of stitches!
I got some always thins, extra longs, wings. Worked great. There are also some (not sure of brand though) that are like a foam in the absorbancy part. Those worked well too.
I have to say, after I left the hospital, I only needed a big fat pad for a day or two, then the bleeding lessened alot.

I bought a pack of those pads the size of a matress, and not only were they super uncomfortable, but I didn't bleed enough to justify needing to use them after 3 days.

I hate Always because even with periods, the top layer stuck and pulled like crazy.
Stayfree has always been my brand of choice, and will remain so.
Ditto, not a fan of Always.
I use Kotex overnights with wings. It has more of a cotton feel instead of plastic, like I felt with Always. Helps things breathe a little!

All of the overnight pads were pretty bulky and either caught on my stitches or just rubbed sore spots.
I used the non-overnight heavy flow with wings and they were much more comfortable for me.
