Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Those that have quit BFing or EPing and switched to FF. (kinda long)

Did your LO have issues with the formula at first? Hendrix had formula a handful of times early on due to a surgery I had to have on my ear a 3 weeks after he was born to remove a tumor and then an infection that showed up a week later. He had formula then and did okay on it minus it making him constipated and his AR.

During the 6 week growth spurt there were times I did not have any time to pump and had little to no stash so he would get some formula here and there. That is when we started noticing that he would have a formula bottle and then throw up two hours later or so and then keep doing this for about an hour.  We assumed this was because of his AR.

He then went from about 2 months until now with out formula at all. I am trying to quit pumping because semi raw nips and below zero temps = VERY uncomfortable days and I just do not have the time with school, work, homework, house work, baby, etc. (Little help from DH at all with housework).

We mixed 2 oz of formula with 4 oz of BM and sure enough, two hours after having it and going to bed he wake up puking and puked until he had nothing left in his tummy. He has tried Similac Advance (before recall/not affected lot), Enfamil Pro-Soybe (sp), and now Enfamil AR. Not sure what the deal is and wanted to know if anyone else has experienced this with their LO. If so, did it get better once LO got used to it? Did you have to switch formula? Etc.

I want to know because if it did not get better I would like to not kill my supply and keep EPing (reluctantly).

  • does he take any med for his AR? LO never had a problem when we switched to formula around 5 months old. i would ask the pedi if there is one formula that they think might be better for him, if you've tried so many and nothing works maybe EPing might be your only option.

  • Yes, but we also had issues with her projectile vomiting and BFing so I'm probably not the best example. We had to put her on Neocate.
  • We are in the process of switching over now and didn't have issues with vommiting, but DD would not take Emfamil Gentlease (which was recommended by our pedi) . I got her to tolerate a mixure of 2 ounces to 4 ounces, but it was still a struggle to get her to drink it down, especially from me. So, we switched to Gerber Good Start Gentle Plus (per suggestions from a few bumpies) and she took it straight without any breast milk mixed in right from the beginning.

  • I second Good Start.  DS didn't even seem to know the difference from BM.

    This also.

  • I also supplement with Goodstart since LO had puking issues early on with the Enfamil Gentlease.
