Too young for booster seat?

My DH went and bought an Eddie Bauer booster seat for our second car.   My LO is 18 months old and about 25lbs.   What is the difference in a convertible carseat and a booster seat?   Is she too young for a booster?

Anyone have any reviews of Eddie Bauer brand booster seats?

  • are you talking about the one that has the 5 point harness.

  • Is it a 5 point harness seat?  If it is there really isn't much different than a convertible seat if she is already forward facing anyway.  If it is not a five point harness one then I would say she is far too young.  They say at least 4 years old before you use a seat belt with a booster seat.

  • yes is has the 5 point harness.
  • If you're comfortable with your LO being forward facing in a car then it's fine to use a combination harness/booster seat at this point.  You don't want to use a booster as a booster before you need to, which is a minimum of 4 years/40 lbs or too tall for their harness (my daughter is very tall and all torso and at 3.5 years/39 lbs she is almost too tall for her harness on her SK Radian, so she will be in a booster in the not too distant future, we have maybe a year left at the rate she's growing).  Boostering is also something to avoid until the child can be trusted to sit correctly 100% of the time and not unbuckle their belt, reach for a toy, etc.
