sciatic nerve

What do you do to help relieve sciatic nerve pain????????????????

Re: sciatic nerve

  • I've heard that cat stretches can help.  (My dad's dr told him this) It is supposed to release the pressure on the nerve.

If you google cat stretch, there are sites and you tube vidoes to show what I mean :)

  • I had severe sciatic nerve pain on my right side for about 2 months.  My doctor recommended ONLY sleeping on my left side.  After a week or so the pain went away and I haven't had any problems since (this was over a month ago).

  • I had it for 3 weeks in december and i feel your pain i could barely walk, i cried everyday.  I saw a chiro, sat on heat/ice packs, used bio freeze, took baths with bath salts, did the cat/cow stretches and took tylenol 3 times a day.  then one day it disappeared.  good luck....i had to use motorized carts at grocery stores cause i could walk due to that nerve pain

  • I am taking tylenol when it is really bad and trying to stay off of my right side because it's that side that hurts.  I took a nice soak in the tub last night and that took the pain away for quite a while.  I've been meaning to make an appointment with my chiropractor, I've heard from others that it can help a great deal with it, I just haven't gotten around to it.  I mentioned it to the nurse at my last appointment on Tuesday and she said that LO might just move her head (or whatever part is there) one day and it'll go away.

  • I saw my chiro and it made a huge difference immediately.  My ob recommended massage therapy.  Normally just sitting/leaning off of it helps a lot - mostly only hurts when I'm on my feet too much at work.

  • I've had rather severe sciatica since 14 weeks. I recently began seeing a chiropractor, but it hasn't helped. Basically, I just deal with it. For the most part, you gotta suck it up.

  • Ugh!  I have it too!  Yoga stretches (esp. cat/cow and modified downward dog) help.  Acupuncture can help.  Swimming can help.  But really, like the pp said, you sort of just have to put up with it and hope it goes away.
  • Looks like we'll have to endure. I have been experiencing the same thing off and on during this pregnancy. I do yoga and have found that the cat stretch does relieve the pain a little and shift the baby he always goes right back. Your not alone.
