LO has a hole in his heart. My poor little baby. I can't believe it's true, he is the picture of health. But the cardiologist said it is a small to medium size hole, asymptomatic, very common and many people don't even know they have it. She said it was remarkable that our pedi was able to detect it at only 8mo. Basically, we are advised monitor and to wait 3-4 years- if the wall hasn't grown together on its own, have a procedure to stitch or patch the hole. Anyone else have a child with ASD?
Re: So the heart murmur is not "innocent" =(
I have a friend in his 40's who still hasn't had to have this surgery, and a lady I worked with got it done at age 70!! it might be something you'll not have to worry about for a long time.
they both have had normal healthy lives with a bit of monitoring involved.
sorry though- I know you can't help but worry.
DD1 had one that resolved by one year. She now has an innocent murmur. It is so scary worrying about the heart, esp when they are that young. She had several issues at birth with her heart, all which resolved, which is how we knew about that.
I hope yours resolves, too, but if not, I do think they can close it with a very non invasive procedure!
Also, are you seeing a pediatric cardiologist? I would recommend seeing one if not.

soontobemomma- Thanks for sharing, so glad things have worked out well for you!
Yes, part of CHOP. Our pedi is also part of the CHOP network.
That is wonderful for your family. I pray that we can say the same thing one day.
My cousin just had hers patched - she's 30. It only recently (last year or so) caused any issues - she's always been very healthy and active.
My son was born with Tetralogy of Fallot, had open heart surgery at 6 mos, and is doing great. He has an ASD that was not corrected during surgery (Surgeon declared it wasn't significant enough). Honestly, I couldn't tell you if that has corrected itself- it was such a non-issue in the scheme of what else he had going on. His heart sounds are crazy.
My oldest daughter also had a murmur discovered in the hospital....she was on monitors in NICU for the 1st night, and it has resolved itself as of about 2 yrs old.
Hugs to you - heart issues are never easy to go thru.

This exactly. I know how scared you are, though:( Good luck! I know he'll remain the picture of health and it will repair itself. Know it, too.
