3rd Trimester

Christmas kicked our butts!

These bills keep coming and coming and our money situation is less and less!

We're trying to play catch-up from Christmas and with a new baby that could come anytime, I'm stressing like crazy!

I'm really looking forward to income tax this year!

  • You're not alone.  DH texted earlier to say that he got his W2, so he'll probably be filing his taxes online over the weekend.  Yipee!!

I totally hear you on this....between trying to save up parts of my checks for when I'm on maternity leave, so we can pay those bills, we're still playing catch up from Christmas on a few things too. That, and we need to buy a minivan sooner than later, but we're already trying to figure out if we should use the tax return to pay off my FI's car, so we can save a huge payment each month.

Either way, that extra money is definitely going to come in handy!! :)

Holy crap! I think I would faint if our elec bill was that high!

  • We did ok with Christmas this year; we used cash only after years of saying that's what we'd do.

The $1400 we've spent on propane so far this winter is a bit tough. We've owed income tax every year since we got married (not a lot, but we've never gotten a refund either) so I never get too excited about filing!

  • We didn't go too over the top with Christmas this year but it seems like everything else is happening financially! We are $300 from meeting our $2600 health insurance deductible (plan runs July 1-June 30) but we have a 90/10 coinsurance afterwards. We were guessing we'd be billed sometime in February for the actual 10% if the c-section charges. Talked to someone at the hospital yesterday and they are ready for their estimated $2000, lol. Yikes!
  • With expecting our first baby & just buying our first house we opted out of exchanging gifts this year.  It was hard for me - it was kind of a strange Xmas w/o gifts, but we would've really been in the hole big time as we usually end up spending loads of $$.  I hope you get a nice return to help you out!

Ditto! I feel like I've already got kids with the way I chase DH around the house telling him shut off lights (4 on in 1 room he's not even in really is unnecessary).

We had to really keep an eye on Christmas this year with LO coming and me not working. It just seemed to add up no matter what you do. I'm definitely searching for all the little breaks we can get filing taxes (DH is partially self-employed so we usually pay in so I'm hoping to make it less than last year).

I'm not looking forward to this, since we'll owe the IRS.  DH ended up being paid by a research grant instead of his university, so they stopped withholding income tax from his check mid-year.   (We've saved what we estimate we owe, though, so we're not in trouble...)

Yeah, We have had a cold winter soo far. right now it's -10, was -25 last night. The $500 isn't just for the house, it's for dh's shop also. We usually have atleast 3 $500 elec. bills in the winter. Summer is way better about $100 or so.

So I turned down the heat to 65* while we're up and down to 60* for when we're sleeping. I'm also using the fireplace alot more. I started it at about 10:30 this morning.
