I haven't read it but I have never let my kids CIO and managed to get through rough patches if you want to share what's going on maybe I can offer some input. 

Of course, my 2 year old still sleeps with me :-/

Yes. I thought it was a good book just to explain what is normal. Most preschoolers don't just go to sleep when told at bedtime and sleep all night. So it was good to know I'm not alone. It gave some good ideas on how to change unwanted habits and involved no CIO techniques.
