Need advice on travelling for work and having a clingy DC

I travel sporadically for work. Last time took it's toll on DD1. Trying to decide how to handle an upcoming 4-day trip....should I tell her well in advance or day of? Should I schedule  flight that leaves super early so I can leave while they are asleep or should I wait until they are awake for a proper goodbye?wwyd?

I've traveled for work since DD was 6 months old, so she's used to it. I tell her well in advance, because my DD does much better when she knows. Well in advance for a preschooler is like 2 days. I typically have early flights, so I don't see them that morning. The night before I tell her I need 3 super good hugs because I'll be gone for 3 days. And I talk w/ DH each night; if DD needs to talk to me, DH will put her on, but that is pretty rare.

It's kind of hard to give specific advice, not knowing much about your DD.

when i have to travel for work, i tell ds well in advance that I am going on a work trip.

I travel on a quasi-regular basis and I dont give my kids too much advanced notice because I don't like to give them time to dwell on it.  THey don't like me leaving, but they cope without any issues.

I take a video of myself on my phone and send it to my DH's phone and he says they LOVE watching it.  They also sendme videos back.  very cute.

I also leave notes for them to find around the house - simple things like "Mommy loves you and will kiss you when I get home"

My last trip, I told DS about two days in advance that I would be leaving. He's not super clingy, but I don't travel that much without him, so I knew it would be a little weird. I left while he was asleep -- I think that was easier because he started his day off on the new routine.

Do you have Skype? We always use it when I travel -- it helps so much.
