OBGYN Recommendations in Boston/Northshore area?

Hey all,

The DH and I are hoping to start TTC later this year. Probably late summer/early fall.  I don't have an OBGYN (my PCP does all my exams) and would like to have one in the enxt few months so I can schedule a Preconception appointment.  My goal is to find one or two at the following hospitals and see who I like best and which hospital.  Can anyone send over any recommendations at the following hospitals?  Any advice on what to ask when I meet with an OB?  My DH was born with Aortic Stenosis and although we only have a 3% chance of a baby having the same heart defect I want an OB who knows what to look for.

The hospitals:

Brigham & Women - its connected to Childrens and close to work.  But hard for DH to get to.  I have a consultation already with Dr Ackerman.

Melrose/Wakefield - Very close to home. I have a consultation with Dr. Bettencourt

Winchester - I heard the have great maternity services.

 Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I go to Dr. Kolbas in Brookline( a few blocks over from Brigham's). She is part of an  OBGYN group all connect to B&W. Phone # 617-731-3400

My friend delivered a son with a heart valve issue and delivered at Brigham's which was perfect since her son had to have surgeries at Children's. She seemed to be more than pleased with the outcome and experience.

  • If you are at all concerned about complications I would go with B&W.

I love our practice that is through B&W (New England OBGYN in Brookline)

I have heard good things about L&D at melrose Wakefield, but no personal experience.

I would tend to steer clear of Winchester- they have a good reputation for L&D but we found they had far fewer options available because they are a smaller labor and delivery. I also was hospitalized there in the past and was very unimpressed.

Although driving into the city (we are north shore too) can be a pain for my DH who works outside the city, it was worth it to us.  The B& W tours are free through Isis if you wanted to take one first.

  • I know this isn't on your list, but I'm having a great experience with my OB.  I go to the Harvard Vangard office in Burlington and will be delivering at Beth Israel - I've met several of the OB's @ HV, all of them are women and they are all wonderful.

  • My OB is Dr. Dixon in Stoneham...he's awesome! He's affiliated with Winchester hospital, and from what I hear, they have a great Maternity ward :)  GL!
