"natural childbirth n.
A
method of childbirth in which medical intervention is minimized and the mother
often practices relaxation and breathing techniques to control pain and ease
delivery." https://www.answers.com/natural childbirth
This is a list for all ladies planning an unmedicated, vaginal delivery. Please
post here with your due date, and whether you plan to deliver at home, hospital
or birth center to be added to the list. If there are any special notes you
would like added (w/doula, out of country, waterbirth, birth method, etc.) then
please list that as well! I do ask that, if you want to be added, you plan to
come back and join in the discussion regularly, as well as plan to share your
birth story with us when the time comes. You are also MOST welcome to come back
after your birth and give us the benefit of your experience!
Check in will be on weekdays around 11 a.m. CST on the Babies on the Brain board.
Congratulations to all the September Mamas! Good luck to all our October Mamas!

Tip of the Week: Packing your bags.
Packing your hospital bag can be a
chore, and there is a lot of confusion about how much you really need or what
gear to bring. Calling ahead to your
hospital to ask about the availability of things like rice socks, heating
pads/packs, birthing balls, etc can make your list simpler to narrow down, but
popular (and small) items include:
-Tennis balls or paint rollers for
use as massage tools (especially helpful during labor)
- Soothing music, both with and
without lyrics. A variety of both
uplifting, encouraging tunes and slow, hypnotic tunes are recommended. An mp3 player or laptop may be less bulky than
a cd player or stereo
-Rice filled socks or heating pads
can help aching muscles and soothe back pain.
-Your own pillow (with brightly
covered pillow case) can make you much more comfortable, since hospital pillows
are notoriously thin.
-Your own snacks. Some hospitals still have no eating/drinking
orders, despite a multitude of studies suggesting that women who are allowed to
eat/drink as they choose in labor are better able to cope and suffer from less
exhaustion. It is recommended that you
go ahead and pack a few things, either for you or husband, but do make yourself
aware of any policies and talk with your doctor about them in advance, so you
don?t create a confrontational situation.
QOTD:
What are you doing to meet unusual nutritional goals, like staying
well-hydrated and getting enough protein? What daily goals have you set for yourself,
and how well are you achieving these goals?

My Blog
I drink tons of water and eat EVERYTHING. I make sure to have protein in pretty much every meal, but in general I don't worry too much about what I eat. I have had a pretty easy time so far with appropriate weight gain, but I don't really eat fast food or takeout. I do take a lot of vitamin/mineral supplements: Prenatals (3/day), Fish Oil, Vitamin D, Floradix for extra iron, and a Cal-Mag fizzy thing. The Cal-Mag has helped with leg cramps as well as constipation, but I feel like a junky with all my meds
Nutrition has just become very important, since my blood pressure may be an issue. I'm fat anyway, so we'll have to keep an eye on it throughout.
Anyhow, again, because I'm overweight, diet and weight gain are especially important, because I shouldn't gain too much and because I'm at increased risk for GD.
I dieted successfully and lost a fair amount of weight before ttc, but quite a bit crept back while I slacked this summer. Anyway, slipping back into the healthier eating patterns isn't as hard as I thought - it makes me feel better. My midwife advocates a modified version of the Brewer diet (the diet the Bradley method follows), which supposedly has a great track record at lowering blood pressure or preventing PIH/Pre-Eclampsia and toxemia. My midwife herself has a great record in her client pool, so I'm giving it a shot.
So far, I'm trying to get in 4 dairy products a day and 2 eggs a day, and it's harder than I expected. Protein is hard too -easy to get up around 60 g or so, especially with all the dairy and eggs, but there are plenty of nights we eat vegetarian dishes and it's harder to get up near 80 g a day. I also feel the diet is a little lacking in a variety of vegetables, so I try to get those in too. Letting sugar go hasn't been so hard, because I'm just so tired of eating at the end of the day! I do eat a small sweet thing to satisfy the cravings, after I've met or come close to my goals (and having a cookie or half a brownie makes it easier to choke down another glass of milk in the evenings - at least it's helped the heartburn).
I try to eat some form of poultry once a day, since that is usually around 20 g of protein by itself and opt for lean meats. I keep a cup of water with me at all times and try to drink 3 glasses at work (I have a yellow cup that = 20 oz), one in the morning, one with lunch and one in the afternoon. We're trying to eat a small salad each night with a handful of different greens tossed in for nutrients and variety, but it's not always easy to do. Oh well, at least the healthy eating should be good for something, and if we keep it up long enough, it'll just become a habit we can carry over to after-birth, right?
Right?
