My acid reflux is killing me this morning...vent

Milk was working for a while but doesn't seem to be cutting it anymore. Pepcid AC was helping for a while but even that isn't making much of a dent. :( At least I'm down to about 5 weeks (unless LO wants to make a late appearance.)

Ugh! Now time to head to work. Double Ugh!

  • Come have some coffee. I just made a fresh pot. Heartburn and acid kick my butt at nighttime and I just down water and eat tums.

I'm the opposite. Water actually makes my heartburn worse (or causes it). I'm definitely loving Tums Smoothies right now, though. That and ice cream usually helps.

  • omg me too! Water makes it SOOO much worse! Last night I had the WORST reflux, I was afraid I was going to take too many tums so I just kinda suffered, and had more milk.

The one thing that was working the best for me was Pepcid complete which are basically like a tums, but for some strange reason I CANNOT FIND THEM ANYWHERE NOW. I checked 2 different grocery stores, walgreens, cvs and walmart! I started using tums smoothies but I went through them already, hubby got me some reg 1000mg tums but they DON'T WORK. I eat  one and it feels okay for about 15 min and then I have heartburn again. =(

  • I actually just went to a GI because mine is so bad. Gaviscon chewables and Pepcid work well together. They don't completly beat it for me but it's a million times better than Tums, Maalox or Mylanta.

FYI: Milk can actually make reflux worse because of the fat content. Fatty foods require more acid to break down.

  • FWIW, I mentioned my reflux to my chiropractor, and he was like, "oh, I can fix that."  I didn't believe him (I'm a bit skeptical about the whole thing anyways, but it has seriously improved my pain levels).  Yeah, well, he was right.  He totally cured it, along with my migraines, and lower back pain.  Maybe that is an option you could look into?
