Staples and Best Buy both have disposal programs for computer equipment. I think BB charges you $10 but then gives you a $10 GC. Not sure if Staples does too.

Also, my county has special days where you can drop off stuff that shouldn't be in a landfill. I would check withy our county if they do the same!

In Houston we have a special recycling facility that takes this kind of stuff. Definitely don't just throw it in the trash. There are other options!
