bubbly your ADHD post got me thinking...

My 4 year old has been taking Levectiracetam for his seizures for about 2 years.  He has had no seizures on it.  His sideeffects have been very few as far as we can tell.  Some of his behavioral issues we haven't been sure if it's medication or age.  He's also a bit off balance, but has other things that could explain that.  They are going to wean him in the spring.  I'm nervous, but excited to see who he is without the meds.  I've tried to do research on it and for the most part I haven't found a lot of info on sideeffects for kids or that it's been tested on them.  The sideeffects are a bit broad.  The neurologist explained that it's working to slow his brain down to make him less prone for seizures.  I'd imagine it would slow other things for him to like his thought processing.  The Docs don't want to commit to the medication doing much beyond the seizure control.  Do you have any thoughts on it or good ways I could get more info?

  • In controlling the seizure activity, it is slowing down some of the chemical pathways in the brain. I've got some good pediatric references at work. Let me look some stuff up tomorrow and get back to you.
