Hi Ladies,
Our DS is 16 months old. He is babbling up a storm but no formed words. I was just wondering if any of you ladies DS/DD's are doing the same.
I know every baby does things on their time/when they are ready. We are not concerned as we know developmentally he is doing great. However, we are excitedly awaiting to hear the sound of his little voice!
Re: When was your LO's first word?
In the speech world, we count it as a word even if it isn't exactly how an adult would say it. If it sounds similar whenever LO is pointing out a cat, then it counts as a word.
Also, kids should be saying at least a word or two by the time they are 1, even if it doesn't sound like the adult version. The big red flag is if LO hits 2 and has fewer than 50 words and isn't combining words together.

I am 100% convinced that my DS's first true word was tree (pronounced "tee") shortly after Thanksgiving (11.5 months). He would walk by the Christmas tree and say "tee" for weeks!
Before that he'd babble mamamamama and dadadadada since about 10 months.
Now he just says "hi" and "na na na na" (as he shakes his finger = no no no no)
First, *kingston* your DS is frigin adorable!
So our DS, 13 months tomorrow and says 'edna' consistently ... we're still decoding ... I did a little sign language with him for awhile and "All Done" was used everyday. We think that 'edna' may be 'all done' since he WAS using it only while in his highchair ... but now it's at random times.Go figure!
The only other possibility is "It's Good", we say 'mmm, it's good' when we feed him and he has started babbling 'thh gu, thh gu, thh gu' & sometimes says 'gud, gud, gud' if he wants more.
I bet your LO is 'saying' something in that babble! So cute
