Tubes and anestethia ?

DS is getting tubes put in tomorrow. I was wondering if your LO got them, how did they react to them? Did they have any problems w the anestethia? Any tips? TIA   : )

Re: Tubes and anestethia ?

  • My Lo had tubes put in about 5 months ago.  He did great.  If she has a comfort item you can take it with her to help.  My LO got upset when going back just because he was leaving us.  He was away less than 30 minutes.  When we got to recovery he was placed in my arms and I had his milk ready.  He drank it and was fine right after.  Less than an hour after surgery he was back to his normal self.  He had not issues with anything.  It was a the best thing we did.  It is way harder on the parents then the LO.  My only suggestion is have milk or whatever ready for her as soon as she gets into recovery and you get to her because they are ready for it.  Take a comfort item if she has one.  Other than that it was super easy.  GL

I second all of this. We had a great experience & have had no ear trouble since. After continuously getting double infections for months after a day off the antibiotics. It is super simple.

My LO is going to get tubes in two weeks.  I am a nervous wreck!

  • None of my kids have had a bad reaction to anesthesia.  After tubes they have all come out of it easily.  DS had his in at 13 months and didn't even cry when he woke up.  He was back to his normal self within an hour.

In the recovery room (between 3 kids we've had lots of tube/adenoid/tonsil surgeries), I've seen all kids of reactions from kids coming out of anesthesia.  It all depends on the kid. Some are kicking, screaming and inconsolable-I feel bad for the parents trying to comfort them.  Others just cry, and others are perfectly fine.

Not trying to scare you but it really does vary child to child. Most likely you will be fine.
