I am 39 weeks tomorrow and really anxious to have this little girl (sorry if I sound complacent to those of you who are actually overdue). I have a check up today and I was thinking about asking her to strip my membranes. Would that be weird? I was 1 cm and 50 percent effaced last week and I have been having crazy cramps and pretty good contractions on and off for over a week, so I'm hoping I've dilated more. I just want her to come out already!!! I just don't know if I should ask or let it be. What do you think? TIA!
Re: asking doc to strip membranes...?
This, and when I asked at my 39w appt with DS, he said no. Haha My OB office won't do it. They say if the baby is ready to come, it will come whether the membranes are stripped or not.
Membrane stripping is painful, but nothing like labor!
My Midwife started stripping mine at 37 weeks with #2 because when I had #1 it never helped and I was induced. Again, it did nothing but help me dilate more with #2, I went from a 2 to a 4-5 in a couple weeks of having it done. But with my sister she had hers done and her water broke as they were doing it!
I had it done with DD at my NST, lost my mucus plug the next day and went into labor that night (only 3 days overdue with her). I wouldn't say it hurts...just uncomfortable. I don't think my OB office will do it in the office, but I'm still going to ask at my appt. tomorrow (I'm 38 wks, but WAY more uncomfortable than I was w/ her).
Do it, the worst they can say is no. Good luck!!
