Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

TMI: Freaky period

I just want some reassurance that I'm not bleeding to death.

I'm on the mini-pill and I've been nursing for the last 14 months.  We're weaning and I expect to be completely done with nursing in the next 2 or 3 days.

I got my first postpartum period last month, it was a little heavy, but normal duration 5 or 6 days.

This month, my period was about 5 days late and it doesn't seem to have any end in sight.  I'm on day 13.  The first 5 days were heavy, it's been pretty light the last 8 days, but it just won't go away.

Is this normal????  Maybe my hormones are messed up from weaning?  And don't tell me to POAS, I did that the day before this period started.

Re: TMI: Freaky period

  • I would get a home pregnancy test ASAP! If it's positive call your DR and possibly go to the ER. Last time I had a freaky period just like you're describing I had an ectopic pregnancy and they had to do laparoscopic surgery, and I lost a tube because I waited two weeks after the period started and I was in severe pain when I finally called my DR. It's probably just a hormonal thing, but take the test to be 100% sure. Weird periods are nothing to mess around with. Ts&Ps your way that it's nothing.

  • I've had two periods since starting weaning (we stopped completely yesterday) and both periods have been super heavy (like, leaking out of tampons like I'm a teen again heavy) and super long (10-11 days). I don't think you have anything to worry about, but it couldn't hurt to give your gyno a call just to make yourself feel better. GL!
