Lurker with a birthday question :)

Im popping over from 3-6 to ask you ladies about your LO's birthday party. DH will be on R&R from Afghanistan for DD's birthday (hopefully!) and he wants to have a big party for her. My question's about the theme you chose. Was your LO really "into" something by their bday or did you just go with a theme you liked? There will only be 2 other kids at her party and they will be almost 3 by then so it will be mostly adults, around 60-70 people if everyone shows up (we both have big families). If you could do it over, would you change anything?

TIA for any help :)

Re: Lurker with a birthday question :)

  • We did a baseball theme. No, DS was not into baseball, but we were and it was in the summer. If we went with what he was into, it would have had a door theme (this kid loves doors!). The baseball theme was simple and fun! We served baseball foods (popcorn, hot dogs, peanuts, etc), so the food was cheap and we asked people to wear their favorite baseball shirt.  Our party was pretty small, though, but I can totally see why you and your H would want a big party since he will be home for it. Good luck!

  • I didn't really adhere to a strict theme.  I did his party in navy blue and orange, with some trucks and cars thrown in.  At that point, it was mostly a theme that *I* liked lol.  He didn't start really liking things until a little later :)

  • i went with a theme I liked. there wasn't anything that he was super into really at that point except for Yo Gabba gabba but i didn't want to do that style of party :P

there really wasn't anything i'd change. it was very laid back. some food, lots of conversation and present & cake time for DS. it was a great few hours!

  • DS is into the movie Wall-E (it puts him in a trance), so we did a robot theme.  To be honest, the only thing that had a robot on it was the cake.  The robot was red and blue so our theme was really just the colors, red and blue.  It was the easiest way to go for us and it ended up being super cute.

  • DD definitely was not "in" to anything at her first birthday.  I did a cupcake theme party, and also had 60-70 guests (all family.)

This year is different.  Everytime I ask her what she wants for her birthday she says, "Heddo Kiddeee!!!" (Hello Kitty)
