Labor Questions

I mostly lurk on the boards but I have a question about labor.  Starting at  7 PM on Sunday night I started to have timeable painful contractions starting at abut 10-15 min and increased to 4-5 minutes apart at 1 AM. Around 5 AM I went to L & D and I was only 1 cm dilated :(. I was sent home and was told to come back in when they were hard to walk or talk through and were 2 minutes apart,  and yesterday during the day I still had contractions but they slowed down to 15-20 minutes apart. Last night again around 1 AM I started to have extremely painful contractions 5-6 minutes apart and I was awake all night. This morning I am still having painful contractions 6-8 minutes apart but in between those painful contractions I am having back labor. I have yet to start to time those, I wanted to know if that was normal for anyone? I don't know if I should call the doctor again? TIA!

Re: Labor Questions

  • I have had similar contractions for 2 weeks now.. I'm sorry to tell you. If you can't talk or move through them go. If you are concerned call or go.. if it seems kinda status quo.. then try to stick it out. I'm told it's good this way because everything stretches slowly... I'm not enjoying it and I doubt you are either. GL and I hope things progress one way or another for you!

  • It sounds like you're getting closer.  I had these at home with DS and just walked a lot.  I also got in the shower and laid there with water running on me for an hour and a half because it was the only thing that made me feel remotely better.  This made my contractions speed up slightly.

  • Sounds like all you're waiting for is for them to get closer together.  I also had back labor and like others have said...if you can't talk or walk through them, then that's the real deal.
  • I would call, but chances are they'll have you wait until you're closer together.  But then again, the fact that you're at 40 weeks, they might keep you and break your water depending on how your cervix looks.

Bottom line, never hurts to go in.  Just be prepared to be sent home again!
