3rd Trimester

I eat too much (vent)

According to EVERYONE

First, why does everyone find that when a person is pregnant that it is okay to comment on what she eats and how much of it she eats?  Last I checked, if you're hungry, eat.  If you're not, don't.  Seems like a simple rule, doesn't it?

Second, why is it suddenly okay to comment on my eating habits and make me feel like more of a whale than I already feel? You wouldn't call my non-pregnant sister-in-law fat or comment on her meal intake, so why talk to me about it?

Since the beginning of my pregnancy, my DH's grandmother has been watching every single morsel I put into my mouth when she is around and asked me how my students have reacted to my "weight gain"--- last I checked, its a baby bump--- and she also recounts what I have eaten that day to others in the room.  Last night, my FIL (who I absolutely adore, by the way) decided to recount every last bit of food I ate when we tailgated at a football game (he remembered that I had a bowl of special K, a bagel, and some breakfast sausage... he didn't recall that it was over the span of 6 hours.  Breakfast and lunch.)  I have a co-worker at work that always comments "you eat so much more than you used to", totally ignoring the fact that I am eating a giant SALAD and peanut butter on whole wheat bread with milk.

I am seriously going to develop an eating disorder.  I don't want to eat in front of people anymore.  They just make me feel bad.

  • I think that would make me have a bit of a complex too :(.  It kinda makes me a little frustrated just thinking about it and I don't even know these people lol...  I do kinda understand how you feel because I've had GD since 17 weeks and it seems like some people eyeball be for eating one freaking carb!  Try not to let it get to you OR you can just have one good hormonal freak out on them and I bet they won't say another word :)

  • Yikes...if I was in your situation, I'd tell whoever to stop being a freakin badger and leave my eating habits for me to worry about. Some people seem to forget boundaries when we are pregnant, and act like what we do/eat is their concern. Sorry, but it's not! I have had no problem telling people that....and it definitely makes them stop :)

  • Everyone thinks they're a freaking Dr these days!

I'd just respond with something like "Yes, I'm trying to keep up with the recommended weight I need to gain for a healthy baby.  I still have 10 more lbs to go, pass the fritos."

  • lol wow you have alot of control. If this was me I would srsly tell them to F off!

Honestly there's no happy medium here, you either have the people trying to shove food down your mouth because you are "eating for 2" or the people who think you eat too much!

Either way it's freaken annoying and people should butt the hell out of your business!

  • I happen to have some coworkers that are overweight, they are constantly dieting/eating/bi-ching about it, etc.  Every time someone comments on the fact that I  don't appear to have gained a lot of weight or that I'm, "all belly," they go off on a tangent about how I actually do eat a lot, and my hips have gotten bigger, etc.  It's pretty demoralizing.  I ate 4 pieces of pizza the other day (I know, a little much but it was 3 pm and i hadn't eaten yet) and they were so excited and went around telling everyone how much I ate.  I'm getting pretty hormonal and uncomfortable and it won't be long until I make rude comment like, "well, I'm 35 weeks pregnant and am still at least 150 pounds lighter than you so shut the f up!"

Thanks!  If only we could all say the horrible things that come into our heads, this world would be a much more honest place :)

  • Can I just take you girls with me wherever I go?  When I'm about to cry about it, you can just be witty for me on the spot. :)

  • I'm sick of this too. I've cut back to 1/2 cup of coffee a day- which is fantastic for me. The one day I didn't have any, I got a regular soda out of the vending machine to have with lunch. Holy freaking cow, it's like I slaughtered an animal right there in the break room the way people reacted. One of my co-workers, a clinical social worker, glared and asked right there in front of everyone "you're drinking THAT? What is wrong with you?". Ughhh.

Yes, I caffinate my baby. Big effin deal... it's 57mg out of 200mg for the day. She can suck it.
