Working Moms

MIL watching DS

When I go back to work, MIL will watch DS.

I'm worried (like the post below) that DS will get more attached to her than me. :( It makes me want to quit my job, even though I make the money, and stay home with him.

Is anyone else in this situation? DH works some nights, so she will probably watch him 3 full days a week, maybe an hour or two for the 4th day.

Re: MIL watching DS

  • That is every mom's worry.

My mom watches my nephew 3 days a week, and has since he was about 3 months old.  Even though he spends all that time with my mom, he still lights up when he sees my SIL or brother and always chooses them over my mom.  Somehow, babies know how loves them the most.

  • I agree with the PP, somehow the child knows who loves them the most.  Also, I think you should be happy that your child can spend the time with a family member instead of a DC.  My mom was able to watch my son during the summer, and I think it was great for everyone.

  • I have the same worry. For me, my mom is the one watching DD, and she watches her M-F from 9 am to about 6 pm.  That means I only get the morning hours with DD (when I'm scrambling around to feed her and get ready) and a few nighttime hours.  I have this worry that she'll think my mom (her grandma) is her mommy because she sees her all day long almost everyday and she's seen her since birth (my mom helped me out a lot by coming over almost every day while I was on maternity leave. It's an asian thing!).

I just have to keep remembering that millions of mothers went back to work, dealt with this, and have very happy babies who know exactly who the moms are.
  • My mom watches my son 3x days a week and he is in daycare 2x a week. My son loves staying with my mom but is so excited when i get home he doesnt leave my side. As soon as he sees me he forgets about grandma and it all about mommy.... you are your sons mother no one can take that bond away.
