TTC After a Loss

Anyone do P90X?

So I got sucked into the infomercial on p90X last night. Has anyone tried it? Did you see results? How long did it take to see results? What changes did you notice in your body?

It seems like it's gotten a lot of good reviews on amazon.com, and DH says a friend of his has done it and thought it was really good!

I was thinking about doing it to complement Power Yoga that I do 2-3x a week.

WDYT?

Re: Anyone do P90X?

  • I haven't personally done it, but I have 2 good friends who have.  They both lost weight and toned up from it.  One friend did it for about a month and looks great.  I'm not sure how long the other one did it for.  They did say it was very intense!  I think it'd probably be a pretty good workout and would definitely be a good compliment to power yoga.

  • I've tried it and I think it's really good, but I just didn't have the time it requires.  I think I've started and stopped about 4 times in the last 3 yrs, and got to about week 5 each time.  Great results but you really need to commit yourself to it.  That's the hardest part.  It is about 1 1/2 hrs every day plus the time it takes to prepare your meal plans.  I recommend it if you have the time.  GL!
  • My DH and I are doing it, but we don't do the meal plans and supplements.  It is very intense, so we modify the plan to work for us with our schedules.  We do our diet through a free website we found and I am in love with it.

I started seeing results in the first week.  If you have questions, feel free to PM me.

  • I did it for about a little over a month and then hurt myself.  I didn't really see visible results, and I read where other women online had experienced pretty underwhelming results compared to their male counterparts.  I definitely felt a difference though.  I felt significantly stronger and more physically fit after my month of p90x.

  • i did the work out every other day for a good bit, and it helped me get back in shape.

im stuck doing low density (walking/jogging/swimming) right now because im still in physical therapy for my knee, but p90x is a great basis for working out.

when i can actually work out for reals, i like to go with the army philosophy here: run/jog mwf, muscle failure (p90x/yoga/etc) tues and thurs

skipping a day or two every so often

  • I love P90X! I didn't lose a ton of weight (maybe 2-3 lbs), but I got smaller and more defined. It definitely works. My downfall has always been what I eat, so I did not follow the eating plan. I imagine if I had, my results would have been outstanding.

I am going to start again soon. Ever since my M/C, I have been having a hard time eating well and exercising. I think the best thing about the whole program is the structure it provides (although, that can be a turn off to many people too), so I hope that it will kick my butt and brain back into gear. If you have the time, it's worth it. When you think about it, it is only an hour a day :)

  • I did it for about a month last year and it was too much for me.  Like the prior poster said, it's a huge time commitment and I just didnt have the time for it. I also didnt see a ton of results from it.  I felt stronger but didnt lose any weight.  But on the other hand, I do know some people who've had really good success with it!

  • I got to P50X..it was amazing!! Good results..them my brother passed away. I never got back on track after that, sort of doing it here and there. I was actaully thinking about starting it up again while we are TTA=)
  • I have never done it but 2 of my friends have one male and one female....The male friend is a cop and become pretty over weight and now after 7 months of doing it he lost about 45 lbs and looks way thinner and more fit to do his job,  Now we know woman take longer to get good results (damn men lol) But she lost about 10 lbs in 6 months but I think most of her weight turned into muscle because she looks very slim and almost has a 6 pack now...LOL

  • My husband has been doing it for a month and he looks great. I can definitely see a change. He didn't need to lose weight but he is so much more toned. I can't wait to see him after the 90 days! I want to try it but I haven't had the will power yet lol.
  • My husband and I both did it about a year ago, and we did use a protein supplement and altered our meals to what we thought would be appropriate.  We saw results within the first 4 weeks.  Neither of us was doing it to lose weight, we did it to try to "be more fit".  After 90 days, the results were actually prettty amazing.  Of course, we slacked off after that and now we are back to how we were before P90X.  The time commitment is crazy, I wish we would do it again, but I am worried about the darn time commitment.
