So my 4yo daughter has had a fever of 101-102 since Friday! I looked in her throat and saw white spots on her tonsils. My husband took her to the pediatrician this morning and they said it is a virus. No white spots. No meds. I can look in there now and see the white spots. The strep test that they did was negative, but there are other bacteria that infect the throat. How do they know that it isn't infected with some other bacteria? She hasn't been in for a sick visit since she was 1 1/2! How hard would it have been to give her an antibiotic??? They saw this really old dr, who told me last time I was in that my son had beautiful clear ears, yet later that day when we were at the ENT the dr showed me the fluid in both ears! Today the ped dr told my husband that he coudl see both her ear drums and there was no wax, yet I have been treating her with ear drops the past 2 weeks to soften the impacted ear wax that the ENT is removing on Tues.from her left ear! The right ear had like 2 chunks of wax that looked like giant raisins, and the left ear was worse! How coudl I miss that coming out of her ear? I am so frustrated b/c she is seems to be gettting worse.
Did this ever happen to you? I plan on calling again tomorrow and making her another appointment at our usual office, not the Sunday visit office. Thanks for listening to my vent.
Re: Very annoyed at pediatrician!!!
It is a very large practice, with about 15 doctors. The dr I do not like does not operate out of the office I go to regularly. When I made the appointment this morning I totally forgot to ask which dr she would be seeing.
Chances are it's a virus (or that the longer strep test is going to come back positive) and if it's a virus antibiotics aren't going to do a thing.
White spots do not automatically equal bacteria.
Sounds like coxsackie.
Good for your doctor for not just handing you an RX for antibiotics.
If it's truly strep, the culture will come back positive in a day or so. But it sounds like Coxsackie. And the doc did the right thing.
You take my ovaries, I take your yarns.
Having her gargle with warm salt water may help her a little.
It's good they didn't just hand over a script for an antibiotic.
