Babies: 9 - 12 Months

What now?

DS wants very little to do with purees.  We've been giving him puffs, etc, as well as peas, cheese, carrots and some fruit. However I'm at a loss as to what other vegis and protiens to give him? And how the heck am I going to get it ready during the week? I work long hours and by the time we get home it's after six - no time to cook. Anyone have any suggestions/recipes? I have no idea what I'm gonna do...

Re: What now?

  • I'm waiting for similar responses on my finger foods post down below.

I searched the internet and found: banana, avocado, boiled carrot and sweet potato, yogurt, bread, pancakes, waffles, toast, zucchini, asparagus, pears.
  • We give DS whatever we're eating (well, most of the time)
If I make chicken for dinner (or if it's left over from the night before) I just cut it into smaller pieces and let him have him.  He LOVES chicken, especially with lots of spices or marinade.  The kid loves strong, spicy foods.

As for veggies, we do small bits of steamed broccoli, carrots, potato, asparagus, whatever we're eating.

He also gets a lot of pastas/meat/sauce combos since I cook a lot of pastas.  DH likes meat in the sauce or mix, so he gets a lot of lean ground beef, too.  He loves stuffed shells.

What about some crock pot recipes?  Throw in some chicken and it'll be ready to go when you get home, just throw it over some rice or a potato.

  • DD eats pretty much everything. For protein, she usually has chicken or turkey, but I've given beef and tofu as well. The turkey is a hormone-free, etc. lunchmeat that I picked up at Whole Foods. For chicken, I just save a small piece of a breast that I've cooked for me and shred it up for the next couple of days. She also gets yogurt, cream cheese, and cottage cheese for protein. For veggies, she's had carrot, zucchini, peas (insides only), broccoli, cauliflower. I almost always keep the turkey, an avocado, and shredded cheese on hand. Hard boiled eggs work well too. She gets the yolk and I get the whites. Last week I made a macaroni and cheese using a rice rotini, cream cheese, shredded cheese, and a dash of milk. I just kept the leftovers in the fridge and gave her a few pieces at any meal. If you get the frozen veggies, it's quick to heat them up in the microwave and serve as well.
  • DD is also boycotting purees.  She eats lots of cheerios, teddy puffs, yogurt, banana, thin slices of apple, peas, mac & cheese (shells), rotini pasta with tomato sauce, chicken.

I make a box of mac & cheese or rotini and keep it in the fridge, pull out and microwave for her dinner.
