Parenting after a Loss

Those w/ a 12+ month old come in

My mom told me that there is a vaccine children get at their one year appointment that can make them sick several days after the shot.  She said I should be careful since DD's one year checkup is on a Wednesday and her b-day party is Saturday since she could be sick for her party from this vaccine.

My mom is sometimes BSC so I thought I would ask the experts about this so called shot to see if you know what she is talking about.  TIA!

  • Hmmm...Ryan and Emma have gotten all of their shots on schedule and we've never had any issues afterwards with any of them.  Do you know which vaccine she's thinking of?

  • Loading the player...
  • she's prob thinking of the mmr, which can give them some sort of rash a couple days later... my lo was fine with it, but she was pretty fussy for a couple days following her 12 month shots.

  • Chicken pox? I've heard of a few kids getting red marks after the shot, but not feeling sick.

  • DD has never had an issue with reactions to any shots. Then again, she never has had a reaction to anything she's eaten or touched either. (Probably just jinxed it though...)

  • MMR and Varicella are nasty.  Both can cause high fevers and rashes and make kiddo generally miserable.

I would probably wait until after her party for shots.  Just my 2 cents.

  • hmm, that seems late for a vaccine reaction.  I wouldn't worry about it.  In fact, it seems like a great time before the party.
