When did you take your DD to get her first haircut? DD is close to 2 1/2 yo, and I have only trimmed it bit to even out one side. Her hair is so fine, and not ready for a real cut, but I am curious.
(And it's a myth that cutting it will make it grow in more/faster - right?)
Re: Moms of girls: First haircut?
DD1 has always had tons of hair. We started having it cut when she was less than a year. DD2 and 3 were both 3 y/o for their first hair cut. One has medium thick hair and one has fine hair. And cutting it did not help it grow at all but it does make it easier to keep their hair neat.
I had to go back and find a photo to remember how old she was. She was right around 2.5. Her hair is also very fine, and at the time, we just trimmed it and evened it out a bit. It made it look so much better.
In my experience, both in my own and my kids' hair, it really does grow out better and faster after a good trim.
For old time's sake.
Who remembers this Gymbo line? LOL
DD was just over 3 when she had her first haircut. . . it was just a trim to even things up. . . it went down to her mid-back.
She had her second haircut when she was just over 4 and it was more significant. . .4-5 inches probably and then the growth rate REALLY took off. I mean, her hair was always long, but it went crazy.
She's a couple months away from 5 now and she was sitting on her hair before she got it cut to donate.
My older DD had her first haircut at 11 months, has had several since, and her hair still is well past her shoulders. Her hair is just like mine very fine and thin but grows super fast. My younger DD has not had a haircut yet and is not going to need one anytime soon, her hair seems to be a bit thicker than my older and it definitely does not grow as fast. I think cutting it does help make it grow out nicer if you have the type of hair that needs that but (at least in my personal experience for myself and DD) it does nothing for the thickness.
DD still hasn't had her first haircut at 20 months - it just started growing! However, it is a little uneven in the back, so I think I'll even it out... hers is really fine, too..
The myth/superstition I've heard is that hair will grow thicker if cut on a full moon...
