Cloth Diapering

Dealing with poopy CDs

Sorry if this has been posted a million times already, but I'm wondering how everyone handles poopy CDs.  My DD is almost 10 months old and is eating solids, so we're beyond the more pleasant BF poop days.  During the BF/pre-solids days, we would just throw the poopy diapers in the pail and then go through our normal CD washing routine every couple of days.  Now her poops are super gnarly, so it seems like the diapers need to be pretreated somehow because I'm not really comfortable just throwing them in the wash without getting some of the poo off first.  We bought a sprayer a few weeks ago, but spraying them is such a pain because water sprays everywhere and then I end up having to disinfect the bathroom after each poopy diaper (and usually change my clothes too).  I need some better ideas . . .

Re: Dealing with poopy CDs

  • I use a plastic knife. I dunk the diaper, then I use a plastic knife to scrape the poo into the toilet. Mess free. I bought a huge thing of plastic knives at Sam's Club for a picnic we had, so I just grabbed a handful of those and put them in a cup in the bathroom. I clean them and reuse them.
  • Dunk and swish if its not plopable (and its usually not).

  • We always just dumped what we could and then used a bit of TP to wipe off some of the rest. I'd dunk and swish if needed but DH never did.

  • I use an old knife that we keep in the cleaning bucket in the bathroom.  I scrape as much as I can and then wash as normal.  DS has only been on solids for about 1.5 months, so we have nothing "plop-able", but I couldn't handle the dunk and swoosh, too icky for me :P
  • we use bummis biodegradable liners. you tear it off the roll like toilet paper, lay it on top the diaper and it catches the poop. afterwards, you just grab it by the edges and drop the whole thing in the toilet. they cost like $8 for 100, which gets us through 3 months. it's scraping and spraying free, which saves my sanity and bathroom.

We have those, but they don't work very well for us.  They always seem to get bunched up in her diaper, so the poop ends up getting everywhere anyway.

  • Can you adjust the spray of your sprayer?

Dunking is hard for us because our toilet only holds like 1/2 gal of h2o at a time so there isn't much place to dunk.
