If your LO is at a center - are they closed for holidays and breaks? If so, which ones?
Our eventual plan is to move LO from an in-home DCP to a center at some point. Our DCP is closed for so many holidays and has 2 weeks of vacation and personal days...which is WAY more time than I have off! It is becoming a pain to cover days that she is closed but my office isn't.
Re: S/O All of the daycare posts...
my lo is in a center. they were closed for thanksgiving, black friday, monday after christmas and monday after new years. cant recall the other ones they are closed for. they do not take full weeks off throughout the year thank god. i am still building up my leave from maternity leave. where do you live?
LO is going to a center once s/he is here. They are closed MLK day, President's day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Columbus Day, T-day and the day after, Xmas, & New Years. (It looks like they close the day before/after if any of the holidays falls on a Friday or a Monday).
For the most part, it follows my schedule, but I will have to start taking off President's day and Columbus Day. They don't close for anything else. That was one of the problems that I had with an in-home care provider was the number of days off that most of them wanted/needed. I can understand how you would want days off from your job, but it was not convenient for me...
The center is closed far less than either of my in-home DCPs were, which is a huge relief. Juggling their week of at Christmas and week off in the summer drove me nuts.
My center closes for the major federal holidays, but not all of the minor ones (ie, I don't believe they're closed for Columbus Day). I can't remember the list off the top of my head, but since I get federal holidays, it hasn't been an issue. I did notice that they're doing "teacher training days" sometime in August and that has me concerned. No details have been broadcast yet, but once summer rolls around I'll certainly need to ask about it.
We use the Goddard School (Sparks location) and their closings are:
Holidays:
Memorial Day
Independence Day
Labor Day
Thanksgiving Day
The Week Between Christmas Day and New Years Day
Staff Development Days: (3)
They have 3 staff development days schedule during the year. They are not on specific days, but float. However, I did notice that they "try" to make them on days that will impact familes the least.
This past year the staff development days were:
Monday after Easter
Columbus Day
Day After Thanksgiving
We use a in-home provider and I want to say that I feel very lucky to have found her. She only takes the major Holidays and two (1) week vacations a year. She was not closed the week of Christmas or New Years, which was great for us.
Thanks for the info!
My H is a teacher, so a few holidays are okay for us because he is off too. (Although I always want to stay home with them on those days!) But for example - she is closing for a week for spring break and he also coaches, so we have to find alternate care for all of those days. It is frustrating for sure because I do really like her and the care DS receives there.
Happy Birthday, little man. We love you so much!
My favorite money saving tip: I've earned more than $300 in gift cards (Amazon, Starbucks, Southwest!) using SwagBucks for internet searching - and you can too! It's FREE and EASY!
Ouch!! My DCP is rarely closed. I think its her policy to close Thanksgiving, Christmas, NY Day, Memorial Day and Labor Day. And if we were in a pinch, she's told us we can bring E over there on those holidays. Last year for vacations she took a week off in the summer and this year she took a long weekend, maybe two.
She's a bit of a work-a-holic and I also think she likes having other people around.
