GIRL!!! DH is so happy to have a girl especially since his best friend had a girl last year and we're hoping that our daughters will get along...
Anatomy scan showed that I have an anterior placenta which explains why I haven't felt much movement. They also said it's a little low (not on cervix but near it) so we'll go back at 32 weeks to make sure it won't be a problem during delivery. They told me it can only rise as the uterus grows, not go further down so *fingers crossed*
We did have a big scare when they said the baby had bilateral choroid plexus cysts in the brain. I'd never heard of this and obviously it sounds scary (who wants there to be anything "abnormal"). But it turns out they are harmless, not linked to intelligence or personality and usually go away on their own by the third trimester.
They said they have to mention it because they can be "soft markers" if found in conjuction with other abnormalities such as clenched fists, nasal bone, nuchal thickness, heart,etc...but these were all normal (they call them isolated cysts which mean they aren't linked to any other abnormal finding). The doc had me walk around to get the baby moving since he couldn't get a good hand shot...once he saw the hands wide open I guess it was the last other soft marker he needed to cross off the list. We also had our nuchal fold test at 13 weeks and our results for all trisomy was extremely low. These cysts are supposedly common and even children and adults can have them so I'm trying to trust them when they tell me they aren't concerned.
Re: and it's a.....
congrats on your girl!
Our baby has the same cyst! I'm glad to hear your Drs aren't worried either, although I'm sorry to hear you have the same thing to worry about. You seem to be taking it a lot better than we did! We went for a more in depth u/s with a perinatal Dr, who told us the same thing my OB did and your Drs told you. Luckily, we have not other abnormalities either. phew. Still makes us a little worried, but I think we're getting more and more comfortable with it as we hear more people who are/were in a similar situation.
They do measurements of everything...legs, arms, head. They look for the different organs and make sure they look good. I'm sure there's tons of things they look at that we don't even realize as the u/s is going on, so yes, they look for other abnormalities. Like pp said, they look for the cysts, and other markes for abnormalities...such as clenched fists, etc.
Sorry I completely forgot to tell you congrats on the baby girl!!!
I say if the doctors arent worried then dont stress your self !
Thank you for sharing this...I think I'm handling it well because they handled the explanation really well and I could tell they were really being sure they saw what they needed to...hence asking me to walk around to get a better angle.
I'm glad we're not alone...i think I believe what I've read..that it's probably a fairly normal part of development but not everyone has them at the moment of their u/s...
haha...thanks and I'm not too stressed about it.
As for your other question, they are looking at the development of the anatomy so by default if they see something different they will be looking at what it could be linked too...
Congratulations on your baby girl! I am glad everything came out ok on the scan!
