We move in 6 1/2 weeks and the stress is starting to come!   Mind if I throw a question your way? (all my friends are Austin/Houston people!)

Thanks to the lovely government not being able to keep a budget our monthly housing allowence went down a significant amount. Now the place we had planned on renting is out of the budget since we still have to float our home here in Chicago (stupid housing market)! We are really hoping to rent a house since we have a large dog and I am sick of sharing walls   We also hope to stay on the north end of town.

We have been looking at some of the suburbs outside of SA (Live Oak & Timberwood Park). We can obviously get much more for the money....but how are these neighborhoods? I'm used to living in the city so I'm a little nervous about suburban life. Would traffic getting down to Lackland be too insane? DH works 7-7 (his shifts rotate every 6wks...so 7am-7pm and then 7pm-7am). Would this commute be an hour or less?

Sorry to bug you....I hate having to do this sight unseen!!!

You're not bugging me at all.  I'm happy to help

The live oak area is nice, you'll be close to the Forum, so you'll be near some great shopping   It is a long drive to Lackland though probably right around an hour, even without traffic.  The good thing though is at the times your DH will be traveling, there will be very little traffic.

Have you joined the local API group in SA yet?  There are several moms who are stationed at Lackland, and you should get in contact with Rainlily here on TB (Miss you bunches C!!!) she lives on the west side.
