NTTCALR - Flight question!

Ladies - I need some advice!
DH and I are going on a belated honeymoon this May/June to Washington DC.

What sites do you use to book flights? Where do you guys find the best deals? How early should we buy them? When are they they cheapest! AAHH so many questions! Our trips in the past have been pretty spur of the moment so we've just gotten tickets off of southwest or whatever airline two weeks before leaving. This time I really want to get the best deal but since I'm new to this kind of thing, I have no idea where to start.

I thought you guys might have some advice... I'm sure there are ladies on here who travel semi frequently? Help Meeee!!

Re: NTTCALR - Flight question!

  • I always book my flights through priceline but I bid on airfare and you dont know the airline or time until you win bid ..that being said I have gotten very cheap flights..Southwest is starting to fly out of a nearby airport in March so I may try them since they have free checked baggage

  • I've booked flights/hotels through expedia. First, I go to a travel agent and see what prices they offer. If I see a better deal online, I book online.

  • Thanks! We typically use Southwest and I have never had a problem... I really like not having to pay to check baggage... and they also don't charge you if you have to change a flight, you just have to pay the difference if the new flight is more expensive, or they refund you if it's cheaper. I just don't know how cheap is cheap and whether or not we're getting the best deal!

  • I don't know why, I thought your title said 'FIGHT' question.  When I started reading about your DH and yourself, I thought, 'uh oh' marital troubles.

Thank goodness I read that wrong!

  • I usually go with Expedia.com.  Dh just flew out of KC to Baltimore for $240 round trip.  We booked only 2 days in advance.  Since your going to DC you have options, you can fly into Reagan, Dulles or Baltimore, it seems like Dulles is usually more expensive, but it pays to check.

  • I've booked three flights in the last two weeks.  Try cheaptickets.com.  Or Fly.com or kayak.com are also great sites.

  • I use kayak.com for my flight planning. Farecast.com is also a good site to help you determine whether you should buy now, or wait (if it's between a popular route)

Expedia.com and orbitz recently had american airlines pull out of publishing flights through their site. But, they've got good package deals on hotel + airfare so price flights and hotel separately using kayak.com, as well as using expedia.
