TTC After a Loss

Intro and question

Hi Ladies! Quick background on me...got a BFP on 12/29.  1st beta at 13 DPO was 50, 18 DPO was 194, and 20 DPO was 233.  Went in for an ultrasound today, and obviously they didn't see anything in my uterus, or in my ovaries, so they are not able to rule out an ectopic pregnancy.  So, I had more bloodwork today, and if my betas decrease, then they can just allow the miscarriage to happen naturally.  If not, they will be giving me a shot of methotrexate, which will apparently stop the pregnancy.  Just wondering if anyone has gone through this or been given the methotrexate and what your experience is.  Thanks!

  • So sorry for your loss.  (((Hugs)))

I had methotrexate twice for my ectopic pg in November.  It's deff kicks your butt.  I don't know what answers you are looking for, but it is a chemotherapy drug and will wear you out for a little.  It also makes it easier to catch colds and stuff too. (I just got over having the flu a second time in a month.)  You also will not be able to TTC for 3 months, because that's how long it takes for the medicine to get out of your body completely.  I hope you don't have to go that route.  (((hugs)))

    Welcome to the board.

    Welcome to the board.

Thanks for the reply.  I am just wondering if this is the route to go if it is not a confirmed ectopic?  Seems "extreme" to do it just in case it happened to be ectopic.  Is there any evidence that it is harder conceive after taking this?

  • Hi, I'm sorry for what you are going through. I just had a very similar experience at the beginning of dec. Slowly rising betas( only got to 673) And ofourse they couldn't find the pregnancy. I did end up getting a methotrexate because of the risk if it was ectopic. I required a second injection as it shot up to 1400 with still nothing on ultrasound. It was very confusing and although my dr suspects it I feel like I still am not convinced it was ectopic, but I will never know for sure. I am here to talk anytime, please PM if you need anything!!

  • I had the shot-not bc of eptopic (although it could have been) but after 4 weeks my betas were stalled at 70. I really didn't have any side effects from it. I started bleeding about a week after and I was down to zero a couple of weeks after that. I am sorry you are going through this!

  • my miscarriage was suspected to be ectopic because they couldnt find the pregnancy.  My blood tests the day of the appointment were at a 24 HCG and at 7 weeks should be in the 10's of thousands as they told me.  Two days later they tested again and tey were down to a 7.  This to them confirmed it was not ectopic but just a basic miscarriage. I hope your results allow you to just be a miscarriage, though its heartbreaking it saves you from the scary chemo drugs.  Best of luck to you, keep us posted! You'll get through this : )
