rice cooker

Has anyone ever used instant (minute) rice in one?  We just bought a box and I don't want it to go to waste.  I also just bought a rice cooker and really want to use it!!  TIA!

Re: rice cooker

  • We have a rice cooker (love it!)...I feel like instant rice would get wayyy overcooked, unless you could somehow time it and switch it over to "warm" at the right time?

  • Can someone explain to me the benefits of a rice cooker? Maybe I'm just a phenomenal rice chef (unlikely), but I think rice is the easiest thing in the world to make.

I'm not flaming someone that does have a rice cooker - plenty of people do, and they all seem to love it!

  • Rice def isn't hard to make.  The rice cooker is nice b/c you just drop in the rice & water and walk away.  It cooks perfectly, no watching, and automatically goes to warm when done.

The rice is also kind of stickier/clumpier...good for those who like chopsticks...

I can make regular rice without it.  But if I want true sticky rice, the kind they serve in really nice Asian restaurants(or in China, lol), I have to have to use a rice cooker.

  • Oh, gotcha! You're right - it's hard to make appropriate sticky rice on the stove.
