Parenting after a Loss

Introduced solids - now what?

We started Lucy on rice cereal, just to try it and get used to the spoon, about a month ago.  She got it right away and loves eating "real food."  We've given her just about everything the grocery store sells in the stage 1 category and she loves them all.  We've been giving her a stage 1 jar or rice cereal for dinner every night and she does really well, but now I don't know where to go from here.  Do we start adding in more solid meals?  When do you move to stage 2?  I'm so confused.  Please help :)

Re: Introduced solids - now what?

  • I would start introducing another meal - like breakfast - when you think she shows signs of being hungrier. For us, it was when he woke up more during the night.

  • It's really up to what works best for you and your baby from this point forward. I think our pedi recommended that we aim for 3 meals of solids per day by 9 or 10 months. We added a second meal around 7 months and then the third closer to 9 months.

As for stage two foods, those are the same consistency as stage one. They are just larger jars (cheaper overall) and usually combine two or more ingredients. Check the jars before giving a new one to make sure it's still just one new ingredient given at once.

When we were in your situation, we started giving different flavors/combos (stage 2). We occasionally gave a second meal of solids. Around 7 months we started giving some puffs and other small finger foods to practice with. GL!
