Parenting after a Loss

Right now I love our Car Mechanic!

So, I'd posted last week that we bought a new (to us) car. Well, we are planning on taking it to Arkansas tomorrow, so I took it in to the shop at the end of last week to get the inspection so we can license it (the plates have been expired for a few months since my grandpa has been homebound). One of the things I asked him to look at was the heater. It just doesn't get hot.

Well, turns out that the anti freeze was clogging up the hose, so he said that needed to be flushed, and to prevent it from clogging up again in the future, we needed to get the whole system flushed out... to the tune of $175. With this, getting a ball something or the other changed (the only thing actually needed to pass inspection) and the inspection cost AND an oil change, it was going to be close to $300.

Frankly, I just don't have that much extra on hand when we are leaving for a trip and paying our dr. bill right now. So, I told him just do the ball change. Dh always changes our oil, so that was never really an issue. And the car WILL get warm, just not toasty, after the engine heats up and the heater just blows air that gets warmed from the engine.

He just called me back to let me know when it would be done, and told me he was going to flush out the anti freeze hose at no charge, just because we do alot of business with him etc. How nice!!! We'll still have to get the system flushed eventually, but we'll have good hot heat for our trip!

  • That is awesome!!  Yay to Mr. Car Mechanic!!  I'm so glad you will have good hot heat especially with the weather around us.

Be careful on your trip!!!!!  Take it slow with that snow.

  • Thankfully we are headed south, like, I think we'll be about 5 minutes from Louisiana, so it's supposed to be fairly comfy! I'm really thankful that all of the snow/ice has already gone through down there, so they'll have had a good few days to clear the rods and for things to melt! We should only have (at most) 2-3 hours of driving in possible nasty weather.
