Ovary behind uterus??

Has anyone been told they have this? At one of my u/s for an IUI cycle the Dr. told me one ovary was behind my uterus. My new RE didnt mention seeing that when he did my u/s. How will this work for my ER if it's behind? One more thing to obsess about!

Re: Ovary behind uterus??

  • Ovaries aren't tied down to one spot, they can move around a little. Mine tend to hide behind my bowels when they are empty, but usually when they have a couple follicles ready to go they get weighed down or something and are more visible.

I may have an answer for you on the ER question this after noon since it is on my list of questions for my IVF consult tonight. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

  • Don't worry it will be okay.  Near the end of stimming, one of my ovaries got large and moved behind my uterus.  My ER was completely uneventual.  Good luck!

  • I am a Sonographer (Ultrasound tech). It is normal for your ovaries to be in different positions. I too have an ovary tucked behind my uterus, but it is completely normal.

    No reason to worry! :-)

  • I was told this at one of my 1st RE appt's. He nonchalantly said "I can't monitor this here". Hmm I went away very discouraged. At a later appt he didn't think it was any issue, and he seemed not worried about it probably because it figured it would move in later appts.  So I understand that first OMG my ovary is "gone" but my experience it is a non-issue
