Cloth Diapering

Should I rent newborn diapers?

I would like on using cloth diapers from the start, but I don't know how long baby will be wearing the new born size diapers.  I don't really want to buy 20 xs diapers that he  will grow out of in 2 months.  I found a few places wear I can rent the newborn sizes for a few months (about $100 for 2-3 months on average).

Also any advice of which to go with: kissaluvsO vs. prefolds/covers vs. fuzzibunz xs?

Has anyone else gone this route?  Was it worth it?  TIA!

Re: Should I rent newborn diapers?

  • I would possibly rent if I was only going to have one baby but since we plan on having more I bought them. You could always do a trial package to see what you like. Most places it only costs $10 if you return everything.

  • I would recommend the KL0s since they'll contain NB poo better. With fitteds and covers, you've got 2 elastics to stop the mess. FBs leak for some people and they run HUGE! My 7 month old chunker is in a medium on the tightest waist setting. I doubt we'll ever need the larges.

  • My thought was that I plan to have at least 2 babies, so I might as well buy some tiny diapers. Then I can use them twice and sell them off at the end.

I ended up getting some used fitteds (green mountain infants) and covers. They're still en route, but they were a great price. diaperswappers.com is a great place to look for people selling NB (and other) diapers. I do also want to get a couple all-in-ones (AIO - bum genius or fuzzibuns or lil joeys) to try - I'm keeping an eye out for those.
