diaper rash that wont leave

DS has a diaper rash.  It seems as though no matter what I put on it it is still red.  He is cloth diapered so I know it's not chemicals in sposies.  Can anyone give me some tips to get rid of it?  FYI (poop is normal and there is no rash any where else.  He is EBF)

Re: diaper rash that wont leave

  • Are you sure it isn't yeast? X had what I thought was a diaper rash and nothing worked, finally went to the Pedi and she said it was yeast and to use lotrimin, cleared it right up.

  • We had diaper rash that wouldn't clear up.

A friend suggested baking soda in her bath water. The first time, it made a huge improvement. After the second night the rash was gone.

She didn't give me quantities. I just threw in a couple of Tblespoons.

  • Don't know if u tried this, but breast milk. My DD had a rash for the first time and I gave her a tea bath and then put a little breast milk on it. Let it air dry before buttig the diaper on. Good luck!
  • This happened to our DS about 2 months ago and he had never had issues w/ diaper rash - also cloth diapered.  We realized that his diaper COVERS were too small for him, thus no air could circulate / there was no space in the diaper which meant if he sat in a poop for even 10 minutes it would really irritate his skin.  I was freaking out, thinking it was yeast, putting 7 different creams on.  Finally DH ran off to buy larger covers and it cleared up in a day.
  • are you sure it's not sensitivity to detergent or anything with your wash routine? If it's not that I would suggest to try coconut oil. Extra virgin coconut oil has antifungal properties and is very gentle on the bum, also it's cloth diaper safe. I just smear a little on my DD bum when it gets red and it helps.
