I have to post & run b/c I need to go snuggle my finally asleep little boy.
Ari's been having some mystery food reactions again. No diarrhea, but rashes on his face, hands, & belly, hyper behavior (weird symptom but we get that with several foods), spitting up, & his reflux is out of control again. He developed an apple allergy 2 months ago, & I think that was the kick off of more trouble.
We've been food logging to try & figure it out, & it appears he's at threshold & just reacting to everything again. Today he had a pretty quick & dramatic reaction to tapioca toast with tahini spread - one of his fave snacks. He broke out if hives, his face swelled, & he literally screamed & cried from 5:30 until 9:00 when he finally fell asleep. Thank gawd for BWing, it was def a lifesaver tonight.
Anyway, since it appears that he's in full bucket reaction mode, I'm going to do another TED, modified a bit for foods we know (hope) are safe. This is full out TED number four. I can't even keep track of how many EDs I've done. I really hate TEDS, seriously, and so does Ari. It breaks my heart to hear him asking for all these things he can't have anymore. Every time we think we have a handle on what his allergies are, a few months later, we add more. It's fvcking exhausting.
Re: Another. Effing. TED.
This. One of the moms in my mom's group is just starting out but has met a few other success stories in town. When she mentioned it I thought of Ari.
We met with a Bioset practitioner several months ago but didn't continue with treatment. It was $65 per visit, & Ari would have to go weekly for quite awhile. I'd be willing to try it for awhile, but DH was totally & completely against it. He went to the 1st visit just to give it a chance, & the lady honestly was pretty quacky.
The last few times I've done a TED, it's gotten us out of crisis-reacting-to-everything mode & we've managed fairly well. I've already told DH that if we have to pull any of our major foods that are safe (which is very few @ this point), we're going to look into going to Nat'l Jewish. It's a hospital in CO with a pediatric allergy speciality focus. I've heard great success stories there.
Ugh...I feel so bad for you all! And in the same breathe, I think we might be in the same boat. LO seems to be reacting to everything under the sun lately and we are not able to pinpoint what it is. Is there a resource that you use for your TED? Do you go on it as well since you are still nursing?
Also, National Jewish is amazing!!! I lived in CO for 10 years and had friends with severe asthma and allergies and they all said wonderful things about National Jewish. I hope that works out for you.
I base my TED off of the Dr. Sears one since it's pretty extremely restricted, even by TED standards. Most of the others I've seen have too many forbidden foods for Ari. I have modified the Dr. Sears diet in different ways depending on Ari's current forbidden food list - for instance, oatmeal isn't allowed, but Ari has tested negative for oatmeal multiple times & passed it on food challenge too. Rice had to be omitted on my last TED b/c it was suspect. Potato (white) has been out for awhile.
This time we'll do turkey, sweet potato, squashes, broccoli, millet, oatmeal (GF), pears, banana.
And yes, I do it along with Ari.
