NIFR: hulu dot com and watching TV online

anyone use hulu dot com or just watch tv shows online or netflix?  I am trying to figure out how to save some money and am thinking about ditching cable... we pay about $130/mo for phone/HD cable/internet (12/mbps).  I was just looking at my bill options and I could ditch phone and cable, up my internet capability to 20/mbps and pay about $75/mo plus taxes and all that jazz (which now that I typed it, sounds expensive)... my questions... would you do it? and if so... do i really need to increase my internet speed? I could keep it where it is and pay $65+taxes.

we have a PS3 we can use to get online (just need to figure out how to do it efficiently) and I was thinking of getting a BluRay player for our bedroom (we just got one for my BIL for Christmas and it was about $100 for a Sony and advertised that it gets netflix, hulu and some other stuff on it because it was internet ready).

Anything to save a buck these days :)

Re: NIFR: hulu dot com and watching TV online

  • I will admit to being a total TV addict. I am not sure I could live without cable, but I do use Netflix on the Wii almost daily and I love it. I have watched Hulu on my laptop, but I am never very happy with it. I am not sure if it is my internet connection or my laptop isn't strong enough, but it is very jerky and sometimes the audio and video don't match up. I'll use it in a pinch when I miss something I really wanted to see, but I much prefer watching it on TV. I can't tell you about the blu-ray dvd players though because I have never used one.

  • I have been considering this myself.  We have high speed internet and have not had a land line for years.  However, DH and I have been playing with the idea of getting Netflix and ditching cable.  Truthfully I would not get a Blueray player because PS3 is a Blueray player, but we do not watch much television in our bedroom.   I think it is a fantastic way to save money :)
