the good news is my kids weren't with me. I should have been home. My plans were to be home all evening, instead I was out with a friend for awhile. Headed back to our town. The roads were awful, and cars were flying, going 80 when they shouldn't be going more than 40. The car in front of me fishtailed and then ended up spinning and hitting the center median and the car next to me fishtailed, and in an effort not to wreck, I somehow ended up spinning and hitting (rear end) a little mountain-y thing, and was in a ditch.
I'm okay, but totally freaked out. Really, my car doesn't haven't much damage, but the guy who hit the center median was bad enough to shut down the interstate and get in an ambulance. I forgot my kids weren't with me and freaked out about if they were okay. Then realized they weren't with me and freaked out that someone was going to hit me (driver side facing interstate). I called 911 since the cops with the truck didn't see me in the ditch. They told me not to get out or unbuckle, which freaked me out more because I really wanted to get out and climb up the mountainside to a safe spot.
I was able to drive away later once I was towed out of the ditch, and DH was waiting for me in a wendy's parking lot. He drove me home and now I'm worried about him making it there and then making it home tonight. I've already rambled EK's ear off and still need to keep rambling, so thanks for reading.
Ugh. Thank goodness I'm okay but what a crappy way to spend my kid-free night at home alone. Damn snow.
Re: got in a wreck on my kid-free night

me too! even though I grew up driving in this-I've wrecked my car twice on icy roads so I'm crazy paranoid.
glad you're ok Erin!! Scary!
Actually, these days, most of the little old ladies drive more recklessly than I do. Usually while talking on their cell phones.

Most people knew to drive like little old grannies, but you have people that seem to think their cars can handle more than everyone else. Dumbasses. I was freaked out with the way a lot of them were driving. Crazy enough, I KNEW I was going to wreck tonight. I had already fishtailed a few times, and I knew I was going to wreck before I got home, just didn't know how bad. So I went 35/40 down the interstate in the right lane.
I just got my van last week and had forgotten to print out our new insurance cards. My friend made me stop by her house to print them off before I drove home (the roads were not bad when we stopped). So weird. Perhaps had I not had the 15 minute detour, I would have not wrecked, but still. In fact ,when the cop asked for proof of insurance, I laughed really hard. He probably thought I was crazy. So I told him the story and handed him the card while he looked at me like I was dumb.
I'm feeling better today. I've been in a funk the last few weeks, just hating being cooped up with bad roads all the time, so this was my wake up call to quit pouting all the freaking time about being stir crazy and be a better mom again! I didn't die or hurt myself, so it's all good.
