I don't think I like my new Pedi very much

I took Faith in for her 6 month well visit today and the Pedi  asked me if she was sleeping through the night.  I laughed and said "not yet"  he then told me to "cio" with her!  I told him I didn't believe in cio with children that young.  He aruged with me for about 5 minutes and then asked what did I do with the older two DD's. I said I woke up with them until they didn't wake up anymore ( both by 10 months) .  He could tell he wasn't going to win this battle and ended the convo by saying "it is medical fact that cio works and you should do it."

whatever buddy,  I think you are off my list.  It doesn't bother me that she wakes up 1x a night to eat and goes right back to sleep.

Now if she was  over 1 and doing it, then yes, I would look into sleep training methods.  But come on buddy, it is your medical opinion not a medical fact!

  • lol! A medical fact! wow I would LOVE to read the studies done on that and what parents volunteered their babies for the research! Love how doctors throw around that word "fact" to suit what they want. As if us moms don't have the internet!
  • Yeah, I would ditch a pedi that was throwing around his opinion as fact. That's ridiculous. At this point, he was basically dispensing parenting advice to you, not medical advice. A 6 month old not STTN is NOT a medical issue that needs to be addressed by a doctor, unless of course you had asked for advice.

  • Sound like someone who will tell you that at 1 year/20 lbs you MUST turn her around and that's law/medical fact.  I always run from doctors like that!

  • I just wouldn't have stated my opinion/argued with him to start with.  If you are not going to CIO and he thinks you should CIO, neither of you are going to budge.  I would smile and say "oh" and move one.  NOTHING comes from you telling him that you don't "believe in it."

Our pediatrician is pretty certain that all babies should go to bed around 7pm...something about light and dark and some other BS.  9pm to 9am has always worked best for our family.  So I listened to his shpeel and continued with what works great for us.  I still fully trust him regarding medical issues.

  • That's the kind of stuff I just nod my head to and move on.  As long as he's a good pediatrician when it comes to the medical stuff then their entitled to their opinions on the other stuff, I can choose to take it or leave it.
